Visionary Workspace
Im Sommersemester entwickeln die Studierenden einen prototypischen Entwurf für ein Studierendenhaus an der Bielefelder Straße in Detmold für die THOWL. Es sollen Arbeitsplätze für die Masterstudierenden aller Fachbereiche entstehen. Das Gebäude soll als öffentlicher, nutzungsoffener Raum verstanden werden, der Aufenthaltsqualität schafft und soziale Begegnung ermöglicht – unabhängig von Konsum oder festen Programmen.
Im Zentrum des Projekts steht die Frage, wie minimale Konstruktionen maximale Wirkung entfalten können. Gesucht wird eine architektonische Haltung, die Ressourcen durch intelligente, reversible und materialeffiziente Bauweisen schont. Tragwerk, Fügung und Materialeinsatz werden so entwickelt, dass eine leichte, präzise und langlebige Struktur entsteht, die Rückbau und Wiederverwendung ermöglicht.
Dabei sind modulare Systeme, Low-Tech-Strategien und temporär klimatisierte Räume ebenso Teil des Entwurfsprozesses wie die konstruktive Integration zukünftiger Nutzungsszenarien.
Ziel ist eine Konstruktion, die durch Reduktion überzeugt – technisch einfach, räumlich stark und gesellschaftlich relevant.

As part of the International Blended Intensive Program (BIP), four universities have joined forces to jointly implement the BIP and participate in the Erasmus+-funded program. TH OWL's partners are ETS Arquitectura LaSalle, Barcelona, Spain, ISCTE in Lisbon, Portugal and University of Antwerp, Belgium. The workshop will take place as part of “Detmolder Räume Woche” in May 2025.
Thema: We are in the midst of an affordable housing crisis. Between rising rents and only few apartments that are being built - finding housing has become a challenge for many. Additionally, there is a clear lack of innovative and creative housing concepts that are tailored to communities. Therefore, in this Blended Intensive Program workshop, the focus is on planning innovative and creative housing for students in Detmold.
At the center of this task is the industrial area of the former Sinalco factory. First, the potential and context of the site is examined, to further developed and extend the existing with new structures. In this, possibilities of modular construction are being explored. The goal is to develop innovative and sustainable building envelopes that are attentively dealing with the existing structure, focusing on improving the thermal and climatic properties of the buildings. Through innovation, improvisation, interim use and the sensitive handling of the existing buildings, new usage concepts and atmospheres are being developed. At its core, the new lively district includes housing for students and can be expanded to embrace a plausible mix of uses, to revitalize the neighbourhood. Instead of a monofunctional residential complex, a multifunctional „third place“, combining living, cultural life and education is created to reintegrate the neighbourhood and the residents into the city. In this way, the site of the first global player in the East Westphalia-Lippe region is reactivated.

WIA FESTIVAL
Women in Architecture 2025 ist das erste bundesweite Festival zur Sichtbarmachung von Frauen in Architektur, Innenarchitektur, Stadt- und Freiraumplanung sowie Bau- und Ingenieurbaukunst: Vom 19. bis zum 29. Juni 2025 beleuchten zahlreiche Veranstaltungen in ganz Deutschland die Leistungen von Planerinnen sowie das Thema Diversität in der Baukultur. Wir sind dabei! Als Hochschule mit frauenstarken Studiengängen der Disziplinen Architektur, Innenarchitektur, Stadtplanung, Landschaftsplanung und Medienproduktion, beteiligt sich die Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen Lippe in Form einer Ausstellung am Detmolder Hochschulstandort in Nordrhein-Westfalen am Festival. Ziel ist es, das Festival, das unter der Schirmherrschaft von Klara Geywitz, Bundesministerin für Wohnen, Stadtentwicklung und Bauwesen sowie Andrea Gebhard, Präsidentin der Bundesarchitektenkammer steht, zu nutzen, um zur Sichtbarkeit von Frauen in der Fachwelt und in der allgemeinen Öffentlichkeit beizutragen.
