Pre-courses

Dear first-year students, dear prospective students,

The Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences offers preliminary courses at the start of each winter semester for future students who would like to close knowledge gaps in maths, English and science subjects. The courses prepare students specifically for the requirements of the degree programmes by helping them to determine their own level of knowledge and compensate for possible deficits. The voluntary programme is free of charge for enrolled students..

From 5 August, extensive self-study materials will be available on the university's own learning platform eCampus (ILIAS) for the courses in mathematics, chemistry and physics. The materials will be supplemented from 9 September by practice courses, which will also be offered online, but also at the three TH OWL locations (Lemgo, Detmold and Höxter). These on-site courses can also be used by students at the Herford campus. Questions are clarified in the practice courses and the newly refreshed knowledge is consolidated through exercises.

Registration is possible from 5 August 2024.

Please note that various IT services (user access, e-mail, two-factor authentication) must already be set up by you in order to participate. You can find an overview here:

On the following pages you will find further information on the preliminary courses  in maths, physics, chemistry and Englisch.
Here you can also find out which course is offered for which subject area.

The specialised courses are supplemented by a wide range of interdisciplinary activities, such as self-learning content on the topics of time management, motivation and learning process design. To help you find your way around the university, the Studyguide also provides you with a good orientation and organisational aid for the start of your studies.
